The assessment seems so limited. What about kids who can do partial differential equations in their heads while discussing Nietzsche and Heidegger?

Well for the expert learners there are some really challenging tasks from Harvard’s Balanced math benchmark tasks. I will be putting up a post on that this week.

There is always a place to begin for assessing students’ math understanding. For the inexperienced math diagnostician, it is helpful to know where to start or to look at alternative resources. Using best practices allows for a variety of assessments at all levels, and, of course, letting the students be assessed at their instructional and independent level. I was wondering if Michael Paul Goldenberg was the author of the ThinkMath series??

Partial differential equations at Kindergarten (surely you jest Mr. Goldenberg??) I have used ECAM for a few years now and it really helps me to find out exactly where each child is on the learning continuums and build from there. The website you linked to has been a great help to me this year in providing activities to match each child’s specific needs.
