Here is a site with great bar diagramming resources. Go over bar diagramming with the whole class but be sure to pull small guided math groups to teach the different types of word problems and bar diagrams in detail. I like the power points and the big templates. I also like the bar diagramming chart by Randall Charles.

Happy Mathing,

Dr. Nicki

Hi Dr. Nicki,

Since my school district is now implementing Math in Focus, bar diagramming or bar modeling is an integral part of the problem-solving strategies. I must become “the expert” so I can support the teachers with their lessons. So… this is a FANTASIC resource for me. The large charts are the perfect visual for Grades 2 and 3. Send any other bar modeling “stuff” my way. I already purchased a book and found the ThinkingBlocks website thanks to you.
