## Fraction Games and Activities: Great to do in Guided Math Groups or Math Workstations

Academically rigorous games keep students motivated! Play them in guided math groups and in math workstations. Be sure to have the students to discuss what they are doing and why they are doing it! Talk matters.

## Pattern Blocks: Great tools for guided math and math centers

Geometry is the only domain that spans k-8! There are so many ways to use them across the grade levels. Here are some great links to templates, with many different suggested activities. I also really like to ask students to complete the puzzles with different pieces so they have to focus on composing and decomposing shapes. Students can do these activities in guided math groups with the teacher watching and questioning, or do them in centers for practice. Be sure to have the students use the correct vocabulary and to describe the math to the teacher and to their math partners.

## Fluency Flashcards

Fluency is about efficiency, flexibility and accuracy! Here are some flashcards. Have your students make fluency folders where there are two sides – the facts they know and the ones they need to practice. They should practice for accuracy. They should also sort by strategy!

## Even More CGI Resources

Here is some more and more. Problem Solving is SOOOO important! Remember don’t teach key words, teach math! Help your students to understand what types of problems they are solving! The research shows that when students understand the problem types, they can solve the problems.
