Mathematician’s Chair – Public Speaking
Sitting in the Mathematician’s Chair during Share Time provides a stage to “show-off the genius within.” It’s unbelievable what props can do. Every mathematician’s Chair should be accompanied with the appropriate thinking and demonstrating tools -including magic markers (of course the kind that smell- everyone loves those no matter what grade) some chart paper, a pointer and a microphone for good measure. I find that a microphone gives some special semblance of importance – I blame it on the talk show culture. I have seen a microphone transform even the shyest of folk into people with something to say.
