Happy Very Hungry Caterpillar Day/Week!

Posted on March 21, 2014. Filed under: Uncategorized |

Did you know that 2014 marks the 45th anniversary of  The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle!  Also that every March 20th is the official “Very Hungry Caterpillar Day!”
Here are some math facts:
Since its publication in 1969, 36 million copies of the book have sold worldwide and it has been published in 55 languages. That year the book was also named one of the best children’s books of the year by The New York Times, and it has since become a beloved, must-own classic. Today, every 30 seconds, somewhere in the world, a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar is sold.

Visit the official site.

Quick Fact Tests

Don’t terrorize students with these tests.  These are just like quick check-ins that students can do as a group or even on their own with a timer.  The research says to give 3 seconds a problem.  These tests are to let students know how fast they know their facts.  They should only ever be in competition with themselves!  With that said, here’s the link.

Here is a great “twist” on speed and accuracy for math facts!  You make this contraption and then say as many facts as you can before it twirls to the floor.

Go to linked page above…look at the ideas and be sure to click on “Helitimer” the 5th link.  It’s a PDF that you can download!
